Although the summer has just begun, the children’s reading space at Hue City Library on Le Quy Don Street, Thuan Hoa Ward, has already become a popular destination for many students.

Sitting beside her two daughters, who were deeply engrossed in their books, Ms. Nguyen Thu Thao (from Vy Da Ward) expressed her satisfaction at how much her children enjoyed the space. For nearly three years now, every summer, she has made time to take them to the library whenever possible. As a teacher, Ms. Thao believes that bringing children to the library and building a reading habit are quite important, especially since the library has a dedicated children’s reading space with carefully selected books that suit their age and curiosity.

“Reading books at the library not only is a recreational activity but also provides a source of knowledge. My children have fun while discovering many fascinating things through books,” Ms. Thao shared, adding that she always encourages her children to read according to their interests across a wide range of subjects.

Sharing a similar view, Ms. Nguyen Nhu Quynh (from Thuan Hoa Ward) also brings her child to the library at least twice a week during the summer. Through reading, she hopes that her child will expand their vocabulary and gain a broader understanding of life. “It is also a way to build good habits, nurture a love of reading, and encourage children to spend less time on electronic devices and mobile phones,” she said.

Ms. Hoang Thi Kim Oanh, Director of Hue City Library, said that in recent years, the library has continually refreshed its programs for children, creating favorable conditions for them not only to interact, explore, and gain knowledge through reading, but also to develop essential life skills and foster their personal growth.

In addition to adults’ reading rooms, the library has invested in a children’s reading room by upgrading facilities and providing bookshelves and bookcases suited to different age groups. It has also created a spacious and comfortable open area on the first floor, featuring reading corners, play areas, book-inspired drawing corners, Chinese Chess and Western Chess corners, and a 3D film screening room, etc.

Currently, Hue City Library houses more than 25,000 books covering a wide range of subjects, including fairy tale books, historical comic books, storybooks about exemplary individuals, character-building books, literature books, science books, science fiction books, reference books supporting school curricula, and English-language books… Thanks to this rich collection, the library has gradually established itself as an appealing summer destination for both children and their parents.

“The number of young readers visiting the library during the summer is three to four times higher than during the rest of the year,” said Ms. Oanh. The library strives to provide the best possible conditions for children by offering free library cards, simplifying registration procedures, and opening from Monday to Saturday with both on-site reading and book borrowing services.
