Tran Thuy Mai interacts with readers on her two sets of novels about the Nguyen dynasty

HNN.VN - A large number of literature lovers in Hue and surrounding provinces has had an emotional afternoon as they listened to Tran Thuy Mai, a writer, sharing about her historical novels about the Nguyen dynasty recently.

The event took place on the afternoon of April 19 at the Provincial General Library, organized in collaboration with the Women's Publishing House. Attending the event were critics and lecturers from the Faculty of Literature at University of Science and University of Education, Hue University.

On this occasion, the two latest novels of the writer, “Từ Dụ Thái Hậu” (“Queen Mother Tu Du” - 2019) and “Công chúa Đồng Xuân” (“Princess Dong Xuan”, 2023, Women's Publishing House), were introduced and warmly received.

Both novels address historical figures under the Nguyen dynasty. “Từ Dụ Thái Hậu” was previously awarded the Best Book Award 2020 in the Literature category.

Tran Thuy Mai was born in Hoi An, Quang Nam. She first gained popularity among young readers while studying at Dong Khanh School.

In 1972, she achieved the highest score in literature at the national university entrance exam and attended the Hue College of Pedagogy, which is now Hue University of Education. After graduating in 1977, she was retained by the university to teach and research folk literature. She became an editor at Thuan Hoa Publishing House in 1987, and from there she chose to pursue writing and became one of the most prominent female writers.

In 2011, the San Francisco - Ho Chi Minh City Friendship Association awarded Mai with their literary award. The award stated: “Recognizing her rich works and awards in the fields of literature and screenwriting...”.

Heritage education program launched

“Coloring heritage” and “Hue Art Memory Game” featuring traditional Vietnamese motifs from the Nguyen Dynasty are part of the “Heritage education” program for 2024, jointly organized by Hue Monuments Conservation Center and GEKE (German society for the Preservation of cultural heritage). The program is held at Phung Tien Temple in Hue Imperial Citadel and is entirely free for children.
