Searching for new paths of creation

HNN.VN - At the end of May, Hue hosted the first session of a local artist training course organized by 4ll-in Performance Art Company (4LLIN). Coming to Hue, the young members of 4LLIN brought the project “Developing the performing arts ecosystem in Hue, from June to December 2025.”

The project began with a two-week course attended by nearly 20 students aged 20-40. They are all passionate individuals currently working in the arts in Hue. The course is completely free and aims to introduce a new approach and path for artists in the ancient capital, creating art programs that deeply reflect Hue’s native culture.

4LLIN's training program focuses on discovering and developing local artists’ talents, providing professional skills and methods of thinking and creativity based on native cultural and artistic foundations, laying the groundwork for sustainable artistic development in the region.

Ms. Huynh Thuy Van, Director of 4LLIN's Hue branch, explained that the project’s initial target audience includes young people studying arts at specialized schools such as Hue College of Culture and Arts, Hue Academy of Music, Hue University of Arts, along with young artists just beginning their artistic careers. She shared: “When students are studying and newly employed, if they're not working independently, they will encounter difficulties when work becomes quite rigid following a specific motif. The course guides them to find their path, creating programs and performances for themselves using the ancient capital’s unique materials.”

Leading the course, artist Nguyen Lan Maurice, co-author of famous contemporary artworks such as “My Village”, “À Ố Show”, “Teh Dar”, and “Palao”, introduced students to the method of “Collective Intelligence” and three types of creative thinking: Wild - Technical - Artistic. Eventually, they would discover each individual’s emotional base, personality, and movement language, forming each artist’s unique artistic material.

The session is not just a place to transmit knowledge but also to unlock potential, awaken identity, and connect artistic intelligences to create together. Throughout the journey, students have opportunities to showcase personal creations and express their unique identity in shared performance spaces. It’s a journey to experiment with imagination, build collective intelligence, and contribute to paving the way for artworks deeply connected to Hue’s spirit.

The course’s ultimate goal is to find individuals capable of participating in building native cultural and artistic works in Hue. “For artists who have developed independent artistic paths, we will create opportunities for them to test themselves and perform works bearing their own mark and that of ancient Hue, providing conditions for them to apply the knowledge and skills learned into artistic practice directly,” shared Ms. Thuy Van.

At the course’s conclusion, 14 young artists performed “CHẠM.Hue”, a work they had written themselves based on experiences during two weeks beside the poetic Perfume River. This was a combination of music with painting, martial arts, fan dance, flag dance... The young people harmonized in each movement, creating a performance rich in ancient capital characteristics, leaving deep impressions on viewers.

Mr. Ngo Van Giao, Deputy Director of Hue City’s Culture and Cinema Center, shared: “This very good and necessary model for Hue artists should be promoted in the most positive direction,” and he affirmed full support for the project.

As for Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the City’s Department of Culture and Sports: “This is a potential model that contributes to creating distinctive cultural highlights, diversifying tourism products, enhancing visitor experiences, and developing nighttime tourism services - a field Hue is currently promoting.”
