More than 150 trainees from various provinces and cities participated in the opening ceremony of the national training course on the topic: “Solutions for preserving digital information resources”, organized by the National Library of Vietnam on the morning of September 24 in Hue City.
Over the two-day training course, experts will train the trainees on important professional topics such as an overview of digital information resource preservation, preservation process, copyright protection for digital materials on the Internet, guidance on using some softwares to support the digital preservation process, instructions for data storage for long-term preservation, data security, and application of AI in library sector…
According to Mr. Nguyen Xuan Dung, Director of the National Library of Vietnam, the library sector has achieved remarkable achievements in building digital databases and developing modern library services in recent years. However, the digital transformation journey also presents a major challenge: how to ensure the long-term preservation of the valuable digital information resources that we have been creating.
As we create and accumulate a large volume of digital resources, the question is not just how to digitize or standardize them, but also how to ensure these valuable resources can exist, be accessed, and used by future generations. The preservation is not merely about backing up data, it is a continuous process that includes managing and migrating data across different formats and technological environments to combat software and hardware obsolescence. Therefore, the training course is not only a professional event, but also a forum to learn, exchange, and seek positive solutions for the future.
