Promoting forest resource management in reserve areas

TTH.VN - On the afternoon of February 25, in Hue City, the Management Units of the CarBi phase II project of Hue City and Quang Nam Province, in collaboration with the WWF - CarBi project, organized a conference to close the “Carbon and Biodiversity” (CarBi) phase II project, and launch the implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework in the Central Annamites.

The conference was attended by Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of Hue City People's Committee; Mr. Nguyen Do Anh Tuan, Director of the Department of International Cooperation, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development; leaders of the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hue City and Quang Nam Province, along with experts, representatives of international organizations, and the project sponsors.

The CarBi project, funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection, through the German Credit Institution for Reconstruction (KfW), and implemented by the Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of Hue City and Quang Nam Province in collaboration with the WWF, has concluded its 6-year journey (from 2019 to 2025).

Analysis data by the WWF experts shows that forest connectivity index in the project areas have significantly improved. The frequency of wildlife appearances has increased in the Quang Nam Saola Reserve and the Hue Saola Nature Reserve, including rare and endemic species; the frequency of threats has decreased from 64% in 2011 to 17% in 2024.

The CarBi project not only supports the promotion of forest resource management in the reserve areas, but also extends to community forests to enhance corridor connectivity between the external forest areas and the priority reserve areas...

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Hoang Hai Minh acknowledged the contributions of the CarBi phase II project, the WWF - Vietnam, international experts, and especially appreciated the efforts of agencies, organizations, individuals, local authorities, and the locals in cooperating to implement the project.

According to Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, the City People's Committee commits to continuing the implementation of the contents of the CarBi (phase II) project that have been deployed. Based on the experiences learned from the project, with various resources, the city will continue to maintain and expand the successful models of the project at a higher level and larger scale so that in the near future, Quang Nam Province and Hue City in general, will have a professional and effective forest resource management mechanism.

The conference also announced the decision to approve the project to promote community implementation of the Global Biodiversity Framework in Hue City.
