Speaking at the workshop, Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Hoang Hai Minh stated that in recent times, Hue City has implemented many important programs, including issuing an Action Plan for the Circular Economy until 2035, piloting electric garbage trucks, and launching a preferential loan program to help residents purchase electric motorbikes. The city has also oriented its development towards renewable energy sources, including solar, wind, waste-to-energy, and biomass power. Notably, the city is studying the Low Emission Zone (LEZ) model for the heritage core area to control traffic emissions and protect air quality.

The workshop provided an opportunity for relevant stakeholders to exchange ideas, share experiences, and propose practical solutions to help Hue become a heritage - green - smart city, taking the lead in achieving the Net Zero 2050 goal. “I hope that the contributions made at the workshop will help the city improve its strategy and action roadmap in the coming time”, said Mr. Hoang Hai Minh, Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee.

The workshop focused on presenting and discussing several topics, including: the management of green, smart, and sustainable urban development in the context of a two-tier urban governance transformation; the current status of green growth urban development in Hue City; policies for establishing Low Emission Zones (LEZ) in Hue; introduction of the framework for green, low-emission urban development for Vietnamese cities; Vietnam’s commitments at COP26 and efforts from COP26 to COP29; and International experiences: from waste challenges to climate action, including infrastructure and financial solutions for Vietnam’s urban transition process.

Also at the workshop, a cooperation MOU was signed between Netzero Company and Hue Institute for Development Studies to establish a foundation for implementing upcoming action programs and to accompany the city in building Hue into a green and sustainable development city.
