Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh attended and delivered a keynote address
Over the past year, based on recommendations from the Department of Foreign Affairs, Hue City strengthened its traditional ties with southern Lao provinces through 35 working delegations, and signed three new cooperation agreements with Japan, the Republic of Korea, and Switzerland, bringing the total number of cooperative partnerships to 17 pairs of provinces and cities.
Economic diplomacy emerged as a key driver as Hue licensed 11 new FDI projects with a total registered capital of 39.27 million USD. The city also successfully organized a range of promotional programs affirming its position as a “heritage city”, attracting hundreds of international delegations and foreign journalists.
Efforts to mobilize international aid exceeded 53 billion VND, supporting healthcare, education, and disaster recovery. Consular affairs, citizen protection, and external communications were carried out professionally, helping project the image of a friendly Hue to the world.
The Department of Foreign Affairs was among 5 units awarded certificates of merit by the City People’s Committee for outstanding performance in administrative reform during the 2021-2025 period, and ranked among the city’s top 9 units for excellence in administrative reform in 2025.
In 2026, the Department of Foreign Affairs will continue to advise Hue City on stepping up green and digital economic diplomacy and streamlining its organizational structure to pursue comprehensive integration proactively. The focus will also be on strengthening international cooperation and integration, external communications and cultural diplomacy, enhancing management capacity, and actively organizing networking and connectivity activities.
Permanent Vice Chairman Nguyen Thanh Binh commended and highly appreciated the proactive role of the Department of Foreign Affairs in advising and organizing the implementation of external relations activities; maintaining and expanding cooperation with both traditional and new partners; and successfully hosting international conferences and overseas promotional programs, thereby helping enhance Hue’s external standing and international profile.
The Permanent Vice Chairman stressed that the work of external relations is not solely the responsibility of the foreign affairs sector, but a shared task of the entire political system, the business community and the city’s residents. He believed that with strong determination and close coordination among departments, sectors, and localities, Hue City’s external relations work in 2026 will achieve significant results, contributing to the city’s comprehensive and sustainable development.
