Korean Businessman Honored as “Honorary Citizen of Hue City”

HNN.VN - On the evening of April 17, Hue City People’s Committee held a ceremony to honor and confer the title of “Honorary Citizen of Hue City” to Mr. Kang Bong Jun, a South Korean national, General Director of SMC Hue Co. Ltd., in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the locality’s socio-economic development and international cooperation.

The ceremony was chaired by Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee, along with the participation of representatives of relevant departments, sectors, and agencies.

During his time living and working in Hue, Mr. Kang Bong Jun has made various practical contributions. Specifically, he took part in adjusting the city’s master plan for the period of 2011-2024; and contributed to the planning and development of spaces along the Huong River’s banks, as well as the riverside pedestrian streets. Furthermore, he has also proactively supported the organization of international forums, Hue Festival, contributing to promoting local images.

Notably, he also supported the organization of charter flights, connecting Phu Bai International Airport with Incheon International Airport (South Korea), including sponsoring 70 flight tickets with a total value of nearly VND 350 million. Additionally, he also sponsored VND 500 million to tourism promotion programs and heritage branding activities in South Korea.

Beyond his contributions to economy and tourism sectors, Mr. Kang Bong Jun has also been proactive in supporting the community. In 2024, he funded VND 400 million to build sanitation facilities for 100 Co Tu households in communes in A Luoi and Nam Dong; he also provided VND 700 million in support to low-income households in these localities. He has also connected South Korean technology businesses to deliver training in 3D, AR, and VR for students and residents in Hue.

Addressing the ceremony, Mr. Kang Bong Jun said that he was honored to receive the prestigious title and affirmed that he would continue to promote international cooperation and further showcase Hue to the world, particularly in the areas of urban planning, tourism, and green urban development.

According to Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang, during over 15 years of close engagement with Hue, Mr. Kang Bong Jun has made numerous practical contributions across various fields, including urban planning, investment promotion, tourism promotion, and social welfare. Among these, his participation in adjusting the Hue City Master Plan for the 2011-2024 period and his contribution to detailed planning for the Huong River’s banks and pedestrian routes along both sides of the river are notable. Mr. Tran Huu Thuy Giang affirmed that the title of “Honorary Citizen of Hue City” is a well-deserved recognition of Mr. Kang Bong Jun’s sustained, responsible, and highly humanitarian contributions. The Vice Chairman also expressed his hope that Mr. Kang Bong Jun would continue to accompany and support Hue in its pursuit of sustainable development.

The title of “Honorary Citizen of Hue City” is conferred to honor foreign individuals with outstanding contributions, contributing to advancing the city’s development toward the goals of peace and social progress.
