Hue - Phong Nha heritage train to be launched on August 28

HNN.VN - After a period of preparation, the Hue - Phong Nha heritage train will officially be launched on August 28. Notably, starting August 17, the railway sector has begun selling tickets for the HQ1/HQ2 train pair, named ‘World Heritage Journey’, connecting Hue Ancient Capital with Phong Nha - Ke Bang.

Mr. Luong Xuan Thuong, Director of Dong Hoi Railway Transport Branch - the Railway Transport Joint Stock Company (the unit that directly manages the heritage train), said that according to the plan, the Hue - Phong Nha heritage train will be officially launched on the morning of August 28 at Dong Hoi Station, Quang Tri Province. Following the launch ceremony, the train will depart from Dong Hoi at 7:50 a.m. and arrive in Hue at 11:06 a.m.

From August 29, the HQ1/HQ2 train pair will officially operate in both directions. According to the schedule, on the outbound journey, the train HQ2 will depart Hue Station at 7:15 a.m. and arrive at Tho Loc Station at 11:55 a.m. On the return journey, the train HQ1 will depart Tho Loc Station at 1:15 p.m. and arrive in Hue at 5:25 p.m. The journey covers roughly 190 km, with stops for boarding and alighting at Hue, Dong Ha, My Trach, Dong Hoi, and Tho Loc stations, and a travel time of more than four hours.

During the launch week (from August 28 to September 5, 2026), the railway sector will offer a special 50% discount across all ticket classes, with experiential fares ranging from 210,000 to 380,000 VND for the Hue - Phong Nha (Tho Loc Station) route.

After that, from September 6 to December 31, 2026, a 15% discount will be applied. Passengers who book round-trip tickets after the launch week will receive an additional 10% discount on the return fare…

According to the design, the train will consist of 8 carriages and can carry more than 300 passengers, comprising 5 swivel-seat carriages that let travelers easily take in the scenery along the route, 1 luxury VIP carriage with 24 seats, 1 community carriage for social interaction and connection, and 1 entertainment-service carriage offering unique experiences that will appear on Vietnam’s railway network for the first time.
