Hue starts entering winter, beginning a series of long and wet rainy days. But truly, if tourists could “embrace” this Hue’s weather, they will not only fully experience all the senses with the specialty of Hue rain, but can also feel Hue more vivid and authentical in its profound and peaceful space.

After 12 days of assisting the authorities and people of Hue City in overcoming the aftermath of heavy rains and floods, on the afternoon of November 11, over 500 officers and soldiers from Division 968 (Military Region 4) completed their mission and withdrew to their unit.

A section of Hue Imperial Citadel wall collapsed after days of heavy rain and flooding. The fallen section, about 15 meters long, is located on the northern side of Hue Imperial City, next to the park along Dang Thai Than Street (Phu Xuan Ward).

Hue, a central region with harsh weather. The summer sun burns the skin, and the rainy season brings constant flooding, making it very difficult to grow flowers. Yet, Hue has changed a lot. On the 10-acre field of red chiem rice (a traditional red rice grown in brackish lowlands of Hue City, sown by April and harvested by July), each planting season requires 40 to 50 hired laborers, and the harvest stretches over several days. Left untended and unfertilized, the rice grows naturally under the generous sun and rain. Some call it “heaven’s rice” — a variety grown from the grace of Tam Giang’s waters.

“Just one rain in Hue makes it be winter” is how Minh Tu, the journalist, borrowed the ancients to describe Hue rain in the long-running series titled “The awaited rains” in Tuoi Tre newspaper. It could also because the rains always bring a sense of melancholy to Hue, even the rains in the middle of summer days.

After a temporary postponement due to the challenging situation of rain and flood, Hue Digital Transformation Week 2023 will officially be held over two days on December 14th and 15th at the Huong River Theater.

On rainy days in September, I had the opportunity to attend the workshop “Slow to Touch” with the method of healing the body - heart - mind with sound. This method is also known as bell meditation (sound meditation) to create sound waves with many different frequencies, affecting the human body and mind.

After a series of cold rainy days, Hue gets dry, being fresh and sunny. Hue is coming in mist season. Unlike many northern provinces, the mist in Hue is just enough to make the dawn rising a little bit later, but it is still poetic and beautiful.

With the vegetable growers, taking care and harvesting vegetables, especially the year-round-harvested ones on the rainy days and Tet days are the same. They always leave their homes from 11:00 p.m., and come back on around 2:00 a.m., on the day after with the sleepless faces and calloused hands covered in mud.
