More than half a century has passed, yet memories of the battles of the past remain deeply etched in the mind of veteran Le Huu Tong whenever he looks back toward the old battlefield. On the sandy ground near Huong Thuy Station, the fiery memories of that night’s battle, together with the dedication of the soldiers searching for and gathering the remains of fallen comrades, are quietly rekindling hope for countless families who have spent years waiting for news.

On the afternoon of August 19, the City Military Command, the Standing Agency of the City’s Steering Committee 515, completed the final handover of martyrs’ remains samples to Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. The milestone marks an important step forward in the effort to restore names to heroic martyrs.

As part of the 500-day-and-night campaign to increase efforts in the search for and collection of the remains of fallen soldiers, collect biological samples, and conduct DNA testing to identify those whose identities remain unknown, officers and soldiers of Search and Recovery Team 192 under the Hue City Military Command, together with coordinating forces, are working day and night with a strong sense of responsibility and profound gratitude. Their efforts are helping bring fallen soldiers home to their families and loved ones.

On the afternoon of July 27, Deputy Secretary of Hue City Party Committee, Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh chaired a conference to review the progress of the ‘500 Days and Nights Campaign’ to accelerate the search, recovery, and identification of fallen soldiers’ remains, along with the program to replace temporary and dilapidated houses for the biological children of resistance fighters exposed to Agent Orange/dioxin across the city.

Marking the 79th anniversary of War Invalids and Martyrs Day (July 27, 1947 - July 27, 2026), on the afternoon of July 21, the city leaders visited and presented gifts to families of people with meritorious service to the revolution in several localities, and encouraged the teams currently tasked with searching for and repatriating martyrs’ remains.

On the afternoon of July 14, a delegation from the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City, and socio-political organizations, led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ai Van, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, and Standing Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hue City, visited and encouraged officers and soldiers of Team 192, who are carrying out the “500 days and nights campaign to search, recover, and identify martyrs’ remains”.

Inside a workshop thick with the scent of cement on Lai The Street (My Thuong Ward), there is a craftsman who remains devoted, day after day, to the meticulous work of casting bonsai pots. He is Nguyen Van Nhan, 53 years old, with 15 years of experience dedicated to creating pots tailored specifically for bonsai artworks.

Through the series of photos taken by the groups of photographers, including Truong Vung, Thang Phan, Bao Chau, and Le Hoang, the Photo Corner of Hue Today Weekly would like to convey the message “The floods have passed, but human compassion remains”.

On Facebook, amid the flood of news and images of inundation, among the urgent rescue and relief efforts by authorities and functional forces, I came across an image that warmed my heart: hot meals being packed and prepared for their journey from the area of fomer Phu Thuan to Hue Central Hospital, to be given to hungry patients trapped by the floods.

The collection of fine art works of Hue Museum of Fine Arts grows steadily year by year. However, a worthy exhibition space for these works remains an unfulfilled wish.
