According to the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 (THE 2023), Hue University was named in the official ranking list for the first time, Hue University said on the morning of October 12. This is an important event, marking the strong development of Hue University in terms of staff, training activities, scientific and technological results, etc.

After 200 years of important changes and development, the name Thua Thien prefecture, which was coined in the year of the Horse (1822) under the reign of Emperor Minh Mang, has now been changed to Thua Thien Hue.

A journey of 200 years, from the name “Thua Thien” to “Thua Thien Hue” as is known today, was the topic of a scientific conference organized by the Provincial Historical Science Association on the morning of September 27 with the participation of many experts and researchers.

Legend has it that at the water source of the Perfume river there is a type of aromatic grass named thach xuong bo. This grass grows prolifically along rivers and streams making their water fragrant. The river is hence named Perfume meaning the river of fragrance.
