Hue is honored with ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award 2024

HNN.VN - Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Director of the Provincial Department of Tourism, said that on the evening of January 26, within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), there was an award ceremony for the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards, taking place in Vientiane, Laos. The three cities representing Vietnam have been awarded (which will be effected from 2024 to 2026) namely: Hue (Thua Thien Hue Province), Vung Tau (Ba Ria - Vung Tau Province), and Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh Province).

Hue is an attractive destination for visitors from all over the world

The award is within the framework of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF), which is taking place from January 22 - 27. The ASEAN Clean Tourist City Award is an annual award, contributing to honoring and developing high-quality tourism brands in the region. At the same time, this is also an opportunity for units to promote and improve the effectiveness of Vietnam tourism promotion and the national destination brand.

Destinations in the area that want the recognition of the award need to submit the registration documents. Experts score the destinations based on 108 criteria of the award, and divide them into seven main categories, including environmental management, cleanliness, waste management, awareness of environmental protection, green spaces, health safety, urban safety, and security, along with tourism infrastructure and facilities.

This is not the first time these three destinations have been awarded the ASEAN Clean Tourist City Awards. Previously, Quy Nhon received the award in 2020, while Vung Tau and Hue won the awards three times.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phuc said that in addition to that award, Hue had two more 2024 - 2026 ASEAN Tourism Awards awarded at the ATF 2024, including: ASEAN Sustainable Tourism Product 2024 for Experience tourism for Culture, Art, and Vegetarian Macrobiotic Cuisine at An Nhien Garden; and the ASEAN MICE venue 2024 in the Event venue category for Silk Path Grand Hue Hotel (the second consecutive year).

This is a golden opportunity to promote the position of Hue City and Thua Thien Hue Province in the process to become a centrally-governed city with the tourism brand of "Hue - The Ancient Imperial Capital, new experiences", and the trio recognition of Hue - the festival city, the culinary capital, and the capital of Ao dai.

Looking toward the future and new opportunities

Hue’s elevation to a centrally-governed municipality from early 2025 has taken place in a special context: the country is undergoing a major administrative restructuring, reducing the number of provinces and cities from 63 to 34. While 52 other localities are expanding through mergers, Hue has chosen a different path - no consolidation, no expansion by aggregation, but an upgrade built on its existing identity and structural foundation.
