Breeding the saola in Bach Ma National Park

HNN.VN - This is the first saola breeding center in the world. The center is currently under construction, expected to come into operation by the end of 2017 or early 2018.

The Saola Research Group (SWG) of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Endangered Species Protection Program (IUCN) officially announces the Saola breeding program for the conservation and prevention of hunting this mysterious animal.

Since the discovery in 1992, only about 10 individuals have been found in Laos and Vietnam. Due to the lack of special care, the Saola could live just several months for longest after being discovered.

To take photographs of this animal, the researchers use a camera trap. The most recent image of the saola was taken by a WWF camera trap in 2013 at a Saola Nature Reserve in Central Vietnam.

It is known that SWG and its partners will also be the first to implement the breeding program for the giant muntjac, which was discovered two years after the Saola, at the Bach Ma Breeding Center.
