Restocking aquatic resources in the Huong River

HNN.VN - On March 3rd, coinciding with the Nguyen Tieu (first Full Moon) Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026, the Department of Agriculture and Environment released nearly 100.000 fish into the Huong River to help restore local aquatic resources. Species included crucian carp, yellow catfish, climbing perch and common carp.

The activity carries significant meaning, aiming to nurture and replenish aquatic species whose populations have been declining. At the same time, it creates favorable conditions for aquatic species to grow and develop, contributing to ecological balance.

According to leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the restoration of aquatic resources is carried out annually across rivers, reservoirs, lagoons and coastal waters, focusing on native freshwater and brackish-water specialty species.

Protecting and restoring aquatic resources, as well as rehabilitating habitats for aquatic species, is one of the key tasks in implementing the National Program on Protection and Development of Fisheries Resources to 2030, approved by the Prime Minister under Decision No. 76/QD-TTg dated January 18th, 2024, and Plan No. 328/KH-UBND dated August 16th, 2024 issued by the provincial People’s Committee (now the city People’s Committee). In the program, the release of fingerlings to supplement, restore and develop aquatic resources is emphasized, conducted regularly and widely socialized.

Through this event, the sector calls on local authorities and residents to take responsibility for protecting, restoring and replenishing aquatic resources, particularly by releasing native species included in the permitted list and suited to the natural conditions of each area.

A friend of mine just came from the Southeastern region to visit Hue. After a day visiting various destinations, from the Imperial Citadel to the tombs of Emperors Gia Long and Minh Mang, then heading to the Van Thanh - Vo Thanh temples and Thien Mu Pagoda, my friend warmly remarked: “In Hue, wherever you go, you can see the Huong River. Now I understand why people here are so gentle and friendly. In this scene, by this river, it’s hard even to get upset!”.
