Tourism businesses must be the pioneers
On the morning of February 24, after directly participating in cleaning garbage at Thuan An beach, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho went to inspect the banks of the Huong River along Huong Giang Hotel and Century Hotel. At Huong Giang Hotel, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee highly appreciated the protection of the river's landscape. He suggested that as a tourism business with a long-standing history of operation in Hue, the hotel leaders need to continue to take care of environmental sanitation, plant more trees and flowers to create a highlight on the banks of the Huong River.
Continuing to survey the area behind Century Hotel, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee expressed dissatisfaction when there are still some shortcomings such as: encroaching the river bank for expanding construction, large amounts of garbage right on the banks of the Huong River, overgrown greenery which had not been trimmed.
The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, after observing the banks of the Huong River, requested Century Hotel within 10 days to resolve the problems, including clearing this landfill
Immediately, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho convened an emergency meeting with the participation of the leaders of the two hotels, together with the Provincial Tourism Association, the leaders of Hue City People's Committee, the Urban Construction and Environmental Sanitation Company, and the provincial Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
With Century Hotel, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that within 10 days, a large amount of garbage must be dealt with at the river bank. At the same time, the hotel must dismantle the illegal roof on the bank of the Huong River. The hotel representative admitted their shortcomings and promised to deal with the above problems within 10 days with the help of the Urban Construction and Environmental Sanitation Company.
Working with representatives of the departments, agencies and localities, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee said that the Green Sunday Project aimed at building a green-clean-bright Thua Thien Hue is a big project of the province. It is vital that sectors and departments at all levels, as well as the local people, take responsibility and participate. Therefore, this is not a one-off job, but it needs to be done regularly and continuously to change people’s thinking, awareness, and actions in waste collection, waste treatment, and environment sanitation.
With hotels, tourism and travel enterprises, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho said that this is the "face" of the province, so it is necessary that these enterprises take the pioneering role. They need to prioritize the workforce for the installation of lighting systems, environmental sanitation, embellishment and planting trees and flowers at their place of work. Especially with hotels adjacent to the Huong River, the river banks must become a highlight for tourists to create an impression of a green-clean-bright tourist city.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho praised the Provincial Youth Union as the standing body and the main force in implementing the project. The union has implemented it effectively and the movement is spreading. The Chairman requested that the Provincial Youth Union continue to promote and launch the movement genuinely, widely, frequently and continuously.
The youth forces must change their thinking and take specific actions to effectively implement the project, focusing on two main contents: making the homeland "cleaner" and "more beautiful". Along with implementing activities, it is necessary to strengthen communication of "good examples" to empower the community on environmental protection, especially in increasing awareness of not littering and creating less waste.
Prioritizing embellishment of the southern gateway

Previously, on February 23, with the aim of creating a beautiful landscape for the southern gateway of Hue City, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee Phan Ngoc Tho went to survey the planting sites which create an urban landscape along Route 1A from Phu Bai airport to Thuy Duong overpass. He also had a working session with the leaders of the People's Committee of Huong Thuy Town.
Surveying the area of planting trees in front of Phu Bai airport, Chairman of the provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Construction, Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and Forest Protection Department to study the opinions of experts to help Huong Thuy town choose what trees and flowers to plant, to impress visitors right from Phu Bai airport, and let visitors witness a green, friendly and hospitable Hue.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested that the area of Thanh Lam field should be harmonized between planting trees and flowers on the lake and rationalizing the billboards.
In the area of Thanh Lam field, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee asked the departments and agencies to research quickly to soon form a flower field here, and re-plan the advertising billboards to ensure the bright and modern criteria. Given that the consensus of the people is very important, the Chairman of the provincial People's Committee proposed that the local authorities and relevant agencies in the process of implementing the embellishment and creating urban landscapes in this area must put the people’s benefits as the priority.
Chairman of the provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Center for Agricultural and Fishery to support people to convert crops and livestock accordingly, without affecting the economic benefits of the people.
Surveying the area of Thuy Duong overpass, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee required immediate actions to clean this area. At the same time, it is essential to research and plan lighting systems and decorate the underpass system to create a highlight for visitors when entering Hue city.
