On October 20, a story about a photographer in Hue wading into Kim Thuy Pond, in front of the Imperial Citadel, to retrieve a foreign visitor’s dropped phone went viral on social media. The photographer is Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh Dang (born in 1981, residing in Phong Thai Ward), who is a member of Hue Monuments Photography Team.

Speaking to a reporter from Hue Newspaper, Radio and Television, Mr. Bui Ngoc Vinh, manager of Hue Monuments Photography Team, who shared the story on social media, said that a group of international visitors visited Hue Imperial Citadel on the morning of October 20. While stopping to pose for photos in front of the Noon Gate, an elderly visitor accidentally dropped a phone into Kim Thuy Pond. The incident brought the group to a halt, while the tour guide anxiously tried to find a solution.

“The visitor was very panicked and wanted to jump into the pond to look for the phone. I asked the tour guide to reassure the visitor and say that there was no need to worry, as members of our photography team would help,” recalled Mr. Vinh.

Shortly afterward, Mr. Nguyen Duc Anh Dang, a member of the team, quickly waded into the pond to search for the phone. “It was nearly 9 a.m. I searched underwater for a while before finding the phone. I was just as happy to find the phone for the visitor as if I had recovered my own belongings,” said Mr. Dang.

His actions earned praise from the visitors.

“After returning the phone to the visitor, I had to rush home to change my clothes because they were wet. Since my home is far away, the team manager agreed to let me take the day off. I was very happy to have done something meaningful,” shared Mr. Dang.

According to Mr. Vinh, Hue Monuments Photography Team has more than 15 members. During their work, the team members have helped visitors on numerous occasions when unexpected incidents occurred. Such acts of assistance not only bring joy, but also show that Hue people are always friendly, warm, and hospitable, leaving a lasting positive impression on visitors.
