Rau tau bay can often be found on hill slopes. It is rarely sold in the market. I eat rau tau bay when I come home in the countryside, or when my friend brings me some like today.

After freezing days of rain and storms, Hue changes itself with new buds and leaves. Apricot blossom, peach blossom and lots of other flowers open while the spring is coming. Looking at them, one feels serene and peaceful inside.

Usually in a salad dish, the pepper elder is the accompaniment for shrimps, meat slices, eggs. Yet with my mom, she turned the pepper elder into the "queen" on the plate.

Finally, in November the rain found its way to Hue. On damp streets, happy faces welcomed rain drops as if they met again their close ones who had been away for such a long time.

The rice cake is clear, smooth and fragrant with rice flour mixed with tapioca. A sheet of rice cake is smooth, very thin and tender. And with the mention of Hue sour shrimp, surely the stomach would start rumbling.

Snacks for the afternoon was sometimes just some rice left over from lunch, eaten with braised fish. But what I liked best was grilled sweet potato and the bowl of scallion oil which mom had made for us.
