Many young people choose to visit museums to delve into history

“Dân ta phải biết sử ta, cho tường gốc tích nước nhà Việt Nam” (roughly translated as Our people must know our history, so as to uphold the roots and origins of our Vietnamese homeland”). These words of President Ho Chi Minh (Uncle Ho) during his lifetime continually remind generations of the country to care about preserving the traditions of the nation's history and culture. They instil a sense of pride and love for the country.

An encouraging signal is evident as day by day, keywords related to history and various museums are being sought out by young people. On Facebook alone, there have been over 2,000 posts uploaded, featuring reviews and impressions after visiting museums and historical landmarks.

In Hue, many museums are attracting the attention of the younger generation, such as Ho Chi Minh Museum, Hue Royal Antiquities Museum, Hue Fine Arts Museum, and XQ Embroidery Museum… This is an encouraging sign that the succeeding generation is showing more interest and a desire to learn about the history of the country.

Over the summer vacation, Phan Thi Ngoc Anh, a student from the Department of Architecture, University of Sciences, Hue University, took her time to visit the General Nguyen Chi Thanh Museum. A cozy space opened up before her eyes. The stories and memorabilia of General Nguyen Chi Thanh were carefully preserved and cared for. The museum staff member's narratives about the life of the General brought her closer to this distinguished figure.

“At the museum, by looking at the memorabilia and listening to the stories about General Thanh, I learned more about the nation's history and about a commander who was close to the People, a genius known for the famous phrase “nắm thắt lưng địch mà đánh(“hugging enemy troops”). This will be an unforgettable memory for me,” Ngoc Anh shared.

Phan Ban Nhat Nam, a student at Quoc Hoc Hue High School for the Gifted, also takes time to learn about history through museum visits. Nhat Nam shared that he visited the Ho Chi Minh Museum, listened to stories about Uncle Ho's childhood in Hue with rustic and diverse images and artifacts. Apart from learning about the famous leader of the nation, he also gained some more information about his school.

According to Nhat Nam, visiting museums is very fascinating because they offer information that can't be found in textbooks or during school lessons.

Alongside historical museums, many young people in Hue also choose cultural museums as places for relaxation and cultural exploration on weekends.

Visiting the Perfume River Antique Pottery Museum for the first time, Phan Thi Kieu Oanh from the University of Foreign Languages, Hue University admitted, “I regret not coming here sooner.” Objects like plows, jars, pots, bowls, and vases made from various materials such as terracotta, earthenware, and ceramic glaze…, spanned different eras. Each object carries a story, reflecting cultural aspects of life and activities of Hue residents from hundreds, even thousands of years ago.

“Instead of going to coffee shop, I think I could invite more friends to the museum. Through museum visits, we can relieve stress while gaining understanding of our homeland's culture,” said Kieu Oanh excitedly.

The Le Ba Dang Memorial Space is also a destination frequently chosen by many young people for visit. Known as “a place to tell the story of a dream,” the artworks displayed here immerse many young people in a beautiful space of contemporary art that is both romantic and filled with poetic essence. This space goes beyond paintings; it harmonizes landscapes and architecture with artistic display and exquisite arrangement, resonating with artistic sentiment.

“Visiting Le Ba Dang Museum, we cannot only approach art and fine arts but also admire the harmonious blend of architecture and nature. We even take beautiful photos to show off to our friends,” added Kieu Oanh.
