Hue Central Hospital congratulates 1,000 IVF babies

HNN.VN - On November 4, Hue Central Hospital celebrated the 10th anniversary of successful implementation of in-vitro fertilisation (IVF) and congratulated 1,000 babies born by IVF at the hospital.

This is a technique first implemented in November 2007, supported with technology transfer by the Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility Association of Ho Chi Minh city, directed by Professor Nguyen Thi Ngoc Phuong. Then, in July 2008, the first 6 IVF babies were born, marking the success of infertility treatment technology at Hue Central Hospital. Since then, the Department of Assisted Reproduction of the hospital has had many important advances and mastered many techniques in support of reproduction such as Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection (ICSI), in vitro fertilization with sperm from testicles, epididymis, cryopreservation of embryos by vitrification, transfer of embryos, assisted hatching, establishment of sperm bank, etc. The number of in vitro fertilization cycles is about 400-500 cycles/year, the success rate by 35-40%. Up to now, after 10 years of implementing assisted reproductive technologies, 1,000 babies have been born by in vitro fertilization at Hue Central Hospital.

The Department of Assisted Reproduction of Hue Central Hospital has also carried out 7 surrogacy cases, including 5 pregnancies and 3 babies born healthily.

These striking steps in the technique is the foundation for Hue Central Hospital towards the establishment of the Center for Assisted Reproduction of Central Vietnam, aimed to meet the needs of infertile cases.
