From an AI idea to the National Second Prize for Hue University of Medicine Student

HNN.VN - Hoang Ngoc Vinh An, a medical student, representing Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University, surpassed many contestants from medical and pharmacy universities across the country to win the Second Prize in the “National Medical and Pharmacy Students’ Model Session” competition. This achievement helped Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy make a mark at the “9th National Medical Education Conference - 2025”, held at Can Tho University of Medicine and Pharmacy in early November.

At the competition, students took on various academic roles such as lecturers, administrators, researchers, and technology experts to debate, critique, and propose solutions for the future of medical education in Vietnam in the digital era, under the theme “AI in Teaching and Learning Activities in the Field of Medicine”.

In this mock session, Vinh An assumed the role of Rector of Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy and impressively won the overall Second Prize, one of 14 awards presented to representatives from medical and pharmacy universities nationwide.

Sharing about the journey to the award, Vinh An said that before participating in the competition, Hue City had just experienced several days of heavy rain and flooding. The floods not only disrupted daily life but also interrupted the preparation of competition materials. When traveling to Can Tho to prepare for the simulated session, An felt pressed, as it was the first time taking on the significant role of university rector. As the spokesperson representing the pioneering and creative younger generation, An was fully aware of the responsibility. The competition was also broadcast live to medical and pharmacy teachers and students nationwide, so every statement needed to be carefully considered, reflecting the representative’s knowledge, composure, and vision.

Thanks to the encouragement of teachers and fellow delegates, An quickly regained confidence and delivered a presentation featuring ideas that were praised as “practical and in-depth” regarding the application of artificial intelligence in medical education, from personalizing lectures and simulating clinical cases using AI to managing learning and research data.

Currently a fifth-year medical student, Vinh An also serves as Vice President of the Student Association at Hue University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Hue University. To balance studies with extracurricular activities while ensuring time for research, An constantly reminds himself to “link” each time slot or milestone with a specific goal to be achieved during that period.

With a spirit of effort and strong adaptability, Hoang Ngoc Vinh An has demonstrated the image of a dynamic and creative medical student, one who overcomes challenges and takes initiative in the technological era, where AI is not just a tool but also an opportunity for the younger generation to contribute to the innovation of medical education in Vietnam.
