15 years of establishing and developing the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region

HNN.VN - On the afternoon of December 13, the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region held a scientific conference on 15 years of establishment and on the orientation for the development of the Museum in the period of 2025 - 2030.

On April 20, 2006, the Prime Minister issued the Decision No. 86/2006/QD-TTg, approving the overall planning for the Museum of Nature systems in Vietnam until 2020. This plan included a regional Museum of Nature located in Thua Thien Hue Province. Subsequently, on December 23, 2009, the People's Committee of Thua Thien Hue Province issued the Decision No. 2824/QD-UBND to establish the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region in Hue.

Looking back over the past 15 years, the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region has undergone significant development and growth in many aspects, achieving very encouraging results. The museum's scientific research activities have been continually developing, including taking the lead in provincial-level science and technology task and currently leading in national-level science and technology task. It has published specialized books, including: “The Statistics on higher flora and fauna in Thua Thien Hue Province”, and “Fish species composition in the coastal area of North Hai Van - Son Cha, Thua Thien Hue Province”. In addition, the museum has 18 scientific articles published in domestic and international specialized journals...;

At the conference, delegates listened to presentations on the following topics: The status and development orientation of the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region in the period of 2025 - 2030; Factors affecting and solutions to enhance the efficiency of specimen collection; the Museum and the digital transformation process in recent times; Some solutions to improve management and communication capacity using digital technology.

According to Deputy Director of the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, Ms. Tran Thi Thuy Yen, the Museum of Nature of the Central Coastal Region is a Museum of Nature at regional level, a scientific and technological institution in the field of natural sciences in Thua Thien Hue Province in line with the development trend of the society. It is a destination for educational activities, and scientific research on the natural history development process and natural resource conservation for students, as well as scientists from both domestic and foreign countries. The museum contributes to promoting the image of the nature and people of the central coastal region, and supporting the development of tourism.

In the coming time, it is necessary to establish connections with experts and scientists in the region for scientific research, specimen identification, and the application of new technologies in collecting, processing, crafting, and displaying the specimens. A “Digital Museum of Nature” will be built and completed using Virtual Reality (VR) and Augmented Reality (AR) technologies, along with 3D mapping technology. Investments will be made to develop a “Museum management and operation system in the digital environment”. Research and application of advanced technologies in classification, identification, typing, and gene decoding, etc., will be conducted in specimen collection and appraisal of specimens. Advanced technologies will be applied in processing and crafting specimens using plastic embedding and composite methods, etc., enhancing color durability, reducing toxicity, and ensuring long-term preservation.
