Huyen Tran Temple Festival officially kicks off on the morning of the lunar January 9th

With the theme “Respect to predecessors”, the festival is a cultural activity to express great gratitude for the great contributions of Buddhist King Tran Nhan Tong and Princess Huyen Tran in expanding the country to the South.

Attending the event were Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City Nguyen Van Phuong; Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hue City, Nguyen Thanh Binh; along with representatives of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee, leaders of districts, departments, agencies, local residents, and tourists.

The Festival was held to honor Buddhist King Tran Nhan Tong, a wise emperor who led the nation to achieve the peak of Dai Viet’s civilization, marking a significant era in Vietnamese history, and Princess Huyen Tran, the person who sacrificed her happiness to contribute to the work of expanding Dai Viet’s territory, establishing the region of Thuan Hoa - Phu Xuan - Hue, which holds a crucial position in the nation’s history of building and defending the country. Princess Huyen Tran was a devoted and virtuous person, revered by the people. She lived her life fully for the nation, and her spirit is believed to protect and assist the people.

Over the years, Huyen Tran Temple Festival has been considered a typical cultural activity of Hue Festival, especially during this At Ty New Year when Hue City hosts the National Tourism Year 2025.

Right after the artistic performance depicting Princess Huyen Tran’s journey to expand the country to the South and the drumming ceremony to kick off the festival, delegates and tourists offered incenses to the altar of Princess Huyen Tran. Previously, the organizing committee carried out a traditional ritual, first to respect the predecessors, and then to pray for the national prosperity, peace, favorable weather conditions, abundant harvests, as well as happiness and well-being for families.

As part of the festival, tourists also got the chance to experience various new year’s artistic activities, such as music performances, Bai Choi game, folk games, martial arts performances, Ao dai shows, as well as calligraphy writing, conical hat exhibitions, and five-color cakes making, etc.

According to Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of Hue City’s Department of Culture and Sports, in addition to expressing gratitude for the contributions of the predecessors, the festival and new year’s activities also carried great meaning in promoting Hue’s cultural values. It also inspired aspirations and determination to work towards the development of Hue City, deserving the title of the special cultural and tourist center of the country in particular and that of Southeast Asia in general, a typical Festival city of Vietnam.
