Series of Ao Dai events tells the cultural story of Hue

HNN.VN - On the evening of July 5th, as part of Hue Ao Dai Week 2026, Hue City Garment Association organized the exhibition and interactive experience ‘The Story of Hue Ao Dai’, showcasing hundreds of distinctive ao dai designs.

The exhibition featured the participation of nearly 20 renowned artisans and ao dai designers, including Nguyen Thi Hanh, Viet Bao, Doan Trang, Quang Hoa, Ella Phan, Tran Thien Khanh, along with businesses affiliated with Hue City Garment Association.

The exhibition introduced a wide range of ao dai that embody Hue's cultural identity, including the five-panel ao dai (ao dai ngu than), the traditional raglan-sleeved ao dai, and contemporary adaptations. The garments were crafted from signature materials such as Hue silk and Zèng handwoven fabric, incorporating traditional motifs and decorative patterns. Each design conveyed stories of Hue's culture, history, and long-standing tradition of ao dai tailoring.

In addition to the exhibition, organizers hosted a workshop in which children decorated miniature models of the five-panel ao-dai, helping foster appreciation for Vietnam's traditional attire while passing on its cultural heritage to younger generations.

Later that evening, Hue Ao Dai Association presented the artistic program ‘The Beauty of Hue Ao Dai’, featuring six Ao Dai collections that combined traditional elegance with contemporary design.

The collections presented included Vuong Gia Chi Hoa (designer Viet Bao), Da Khuc Lien Hoa (designer Doan Trang), Ngu Cam Huong Van (designer Hanh Nguyen), Hy Sac Tam Giao (Thanh Trang Ao Dai brand), La La La (designer Kim Dung), and Mac Huong (designer Nhu Nguyen of Phu Xuan Ao Dai). Their inspirations ranged from clouds and skies, the natural beauty of Hue, and the elegance of the former royal court to the harmony between two souls beginning a new chapter in life, as well as the joy reflected in children's lively footsteps and radiant smiles.

The program aims to highlight the enduring vitality of Vietnam's cultural heritage in modern life

According to the organizers, each collection represented not only creativity in fashion design but also a story about the culture, history, and identity of the former imperial capital. Through these works, audiences could appreciate the elegance, gentleness, and depth of Hue's people while witnessing the enduring vitality of Vietnam's cultural heritage in the flow of modern life.

On the same day, the program "Heritage Journey - Little Steps of the Ancient Capital's Children" was held at the Public Service Center of Thuan Hoa Ward.

The approximately two-hour program featured a variety of artistic performances. Its highlight was a showcase by 300 children dressed in traditional ao-dai and carrying props deeply associated with Hue, including lotus flowers, paper fans, paper flowers, and lanterns. Together, they created a culturally rich artistic setting that celebrated the beauty of the ao dai and the heritage of the Ancient Capital for residents and visitors alike.

In addition to the ao-dai presentations, the audience enjoyed performances including the dance ‘Echoes of the Festival - Vietnam's Finest’, the flashmob ‘Vietnam - Proudly Moving Toward the Future’, the contemporary dance ‘Welcome to Hue’, and the solo performance ‘Tu Dien Co Do’.
