“Protecting cultural heritage from perspective of gender equality”

Webinar on “Protecting cultural heritage from perspective of gender equality” at Thua Thien Hue bridge post

The workshop aimed to share new perceptions on protection and promotion of the value of documentary heritage in particular and of cultural heritage in general; raise awareness of gender equality and encourage the participation of women in the protection and promotion of cultural heritage values.

The participants of the workshop assessed the current management situation, especially the identification, protection and promotion of the value of cultural heritage in general and of documentary heritage in particular; protection and promotion of the value of world documentary heritages and documentary heritage in the Asia-Pacific region (under the Memory of the World Program) after being honored.

At the same time, the participants shared about the role of women, as well as the advantages and disadvantages in protecting and promoting the value of documentary heritage in particular and of cultural heritage in general; since then, strengthen the connection in the regional network on protection activities and access to documentary heritage in accordance with the spirit of UNESCO and the Memory of the World (MOW) Program.

At Thua Thien Hue bridge post, with the presentation of “Management, conservation and promotion of the value of documentary heritage in Thua Thien Hue”, Dr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports, highlighted the local efforts in managing, preserving and promoting world documentary heritages: Woodblocks of the Nguyen Dynasty, Châu bản (official administrative dossiers) of the Nguyen Dynasty and Literary works on Hue royal architecture.

Thua Thien Hue has organized many activities to exhibit, display and introduce types of documentary heritage to the public, to the researchers and visitors at the relics of the Complex of Hue Monuments; at the same time, promote research and cooperation to highlight the value and the diversity of documentary heritage and bring those values ​​to the community; create films, reportage to introduce and promote the unique value of documentary heritage on television; …

Mr. Phan Thanh Hai suggested that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism need to implement a research plan, draft and issue a circular regulating the inventory of documentary heritage and make scientific dossiers of documentary heritage for inclusion in the list of national documentary heritage. Besides, information on documentary heritage is needed to be added to the Law on Cultural Heritage to better identify values ​​and catalog heritage.
