Thieu Tri became King in 1840, but passed away 7 years later (on November 11th, 1847) at the age of 41. The successor, King Tu Duc started the construction of the tomb for King Thieu Tri on February 11th, 1848 with the participation of thousands of workers and soldiers.

Fresco technique in heritage conservation

Fresco is a technique of mural painting executed upon freshly-laid plaster with watercolor which has so far been extinct in Vietnam. The fact that German experts are assisting in the restoration of the three items at Phung Tien Temple in the Imperial City using fresco technique, combining with vocational training, is an opportunity for Hue to recover this technique for the conservation of the royal architectural heritage.
