The event, organized by the Department of Culture and Sports, opened on April 23rd at Hue City Library (29A Le Quy Don Street, Thuan Hoa District), attracting a large number of attendees. Present at the event was Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh.
This year, the event carries the messages: “Reading Culture - Connecting Communities”; “Into the Nation’s Rising Era with Books”, and “Reading - Enriching Knowledge, Nurturing Aspirations, Driving Innovation.”
According to the organizers, these messages not only emphasize the importance of books but also encourage Vietnamese people to make reading a daily habit - an essential step in contributing to the nation’s development.
The Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day aims to honor the value of books and promote reading within communities. It also seeks to raise public awareness about the importance of reading for the development of knowledge, skill, critical thinking, education, and character-building. The event is also an opportunity to show appreciation for the contributions of readers, authors, publishers, printers, distributors, and those who preserve books. It also emphasizes the responsibility of all levels and sectors in building and developing a reading culture in Vietnam.
In addition to the book exhibition, the organizers launched the 2025 Reading Culture Ambassador Contest in Hue to encourage individuals and organizations to take part in promoting reading and to help foster a learning society that inspires dedication to the development of a prosperous country in every Vietnamese person.

On this occasion, the organizing committee donated 300 books to public and private libraries, local reading spaces, correctional facilities, and schools across the city. Another 200 books were presented to institutions, researchers, and communities to further spread knowledge and the distinctive cultural values of Hue Ancient Capital.
Speaking at the event, Director of the Department of Culture and Sports Phan Thanh Hai stated that books are not only a treasure trove of human knowledge but also loyal companions that nurture the soul, shape character, and inspire a nice and meaningful life in each person. In the fast-paced world of digital technology and modern media, the habit of reading is gradually being forgotten. Therefore, Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2025 serves as an important moment to reflect and rekindle a love for reading across society.
