Attracting over 50 athletes from 9 villages in the commune, the competition featured 9 categories: Men's single with 2 short-arm oars; Men's single with 1 short-arm oar; Men's single with 1 long-arm oar; Men's doubles with 1 oars and 1 pole; Men's single standing with pole; Men's doubles with 2 short-arm oars and 1 long-arm oar; Men's doubles swimming with and 1 long-arm oar; Men's doubles with 1 person and 1 short-arm oar; Men's doubles swimming and 1 short-arm oar.
Despite of the competitiveness, the boat race was mainly a performance-oriented event aimed at bringing joy to the audience through the skill, endurance, and balance of the athletes on their boats. Therefore, throughout the competition, the Như Y River echoed with cheers and laughter.
"This is an activity to promote sports and physical training movements, enhance solidarity among the people, thereby contributing to preserving and promoting the traditional cultural values of the locality. In the framework of 'Cho que Ngay Hoi' and 'Night Market at Thanh Toan Tiled-roof Bridge'... boat racing is always an attractive activity attracting a great number of the audience," said Mr. Tran Duy Viet, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thuy Thanh commune.
In connection with the activities to celebrate New year 2024 and in response to the Four Season Festival (December 29, 2023 - January 1, 2024) of Thuy Thanh commune, after the boat racing held on the morning of December 31, various interesting activities continued to take place at the community tourism site of Thanh Toan Tiled-roof Bridge.
Alongside the night market held on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and other activities such as Bai Choi, folk games, river cruising, performances of daily activities and agricultural production, shopping, and food court, etc., there will be another boat race which will be held on the morning of January 1, 2024. On the nights of December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024, an artistic program called "Welcoming the New Year 2024" will take place at the exhibition ground for agricultural tools, featuring the participation of many popular singers and music groups.
