Hue celebrates Vietnam Theatre Day 2026

Performance of an excerpt from Hue Tuong play ‘Pha tran’ at the event

Under the Decision No. 13/QD-TTg dated January 4, 2011, issued by the Prime Minister, the 12th day of the 8th lunar month is observed annually as Vietnam Theater Day. The occasion provides theatre practitioners with an opportunity to meet, exchange experiences, and commemorate and pay tribute to their predecessors, while contributing to the preservation of the values of the nation’s traditional theatre arts.

At the event, artists performed excerpts from Hue Tuong play ‘Pha tran’, and Hue opera ‘Vien dan sung kip’, introducing audiences to distinctive features of Hue’s traditional theater.

According to Chairman of Hue City Theatre Artist Association Nguyen Van Thanh, in 2026, the Association’s artisans and artists continued to devote themselves to research and creative activities, gradually promoting the values of the nation’s traditional theater arts.

Generations of artists who once performed the Hue opera excerpt ‘Vien Dan Sung Kip’ reunited

In the coming time, Hue City Theatre Artist Association plans to establish Hue Theatre Club. The club will provide a space for artisans and artists to meet, interact, and perform outstanding excerpts and pieces from tuong, Hue opera, and spoken drama, etc., creating more opportunities for traditional theatre to reach the public and visitors.
