Awarding two records to the “Map of Vietnam made of bamboo toothpicks”

HNN.VN - The awarding ceremony was held on the night of December 2, in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of guests and locals involving in creating the artwork. The Map of Vietnam made by BOARC art style set the record with the largest number of participants from the Northern, Central, and Southern regions.

The “Map of Vietnam” and “Dong Son Bronze Drum” made of bamboo toothpicks are parts of the collection “Spirit of Vietnam” with the message: Connection – Pride – Love. The artwork’s area is around 1.8m x 2.8m, crafted from nearly 120.000 bamboo toothpicks.

This unique map was displayed at Hue Traditional Craft Festival in May, 2023. It was the work that together crafted by provincial, city leaders and locals, as well as tourists. The total number of people participating in creating the map was nearly 12.000 without discrimination based on religion, age or gender from across the country.

Since October 2022, the architect Hoang Tuan Long conceived a design concept and held the implementation at 10 locations through 3 provinces and cities including Hanoi, Hue, and Ho Chi Minh City. After being finished, the artwork was registered to the Vietnam Records Organization (VietKings), and World Records Association (WorldKings).

“The Map of Vietnam” crafted in BOARC style will be auctioned for charitable activities for orphaned children.

Hoang Tuan Long is a son of Hue. He is the father of BOARC art style, based on the combination between laser technology and traditional bamboo toothpicks. BOARC has been displayed in various locations all over the world such as The US, United Kingdom, Germany, UAE, and Singapore, etc.

Vietnam’s oldest cadastral record preserved in Hue

Hue is a land that bears the imprint of the southward migration and territorial expansion undertaken more than 700 years ago by the people of ancient Thuan Hoa. Very few documents reveal the timing of these migration waves or the organization and formation of Vietnamese villages in the region. Yet during fieldwork, I gained access to several ancient Han-Nom documents recording the migration, land reclamation, and establishment of villages and communes. Most notably is a cadastral record dating to the 9th year of the Dai Hoa reign (1451) under King Le Nhan Tong, compiled exactly 575 years ago.
