| An overview of the working meeting |
At the meeting, leaders of Hue Monuments Conservation Centre reported that the preservation of the Complex of Hue Monuments has entered a stable and sustainable phase. Hue is home to eight UNESCO-recognized heritage sites. The center has introduced measures to strengthen conservation efforts, while applying science and technology.
From the beginning of the year through September 21, 2026, heritage sites managed by the center welcomed more than 2.8 million visitors, generating around VND 400 billion in entrance fee revenue. Service revenue reached VND 65.9 billion as of September 20, up 104% from the same period last year and reaching 91.8% of the annual target. The center has also introduced a range of cultural experiences, including Imperial Banquets, Royal Tea Experiences and Nha Nhac (Hue Royal Court Music).
Hue City has invested nearly VND 4.8 trillion in the restoration and upgrading of more than 200 heritage sites. In 2026, the center is implementing 11 projects, with Dai Cung Gate and Thoai Thanh Palace projects set to begin construction. From 2026 to 2030, 27 projects are expected to be carried out with a total investment of VND 1.594 trillion, contributing to the completion of Hue Imperial Citadel’s architecture.
Additionally, efforts to promote intangible heritage values have continued, with Nha Nhac, royal court dances, and court theatre regularly featured in performances. The ‘Heritage Education’ program has reached more than 62,000 students. Digitalization has also been accelerated, with 207 Nguyen Dynasty antiques digitally recreated in 3D, while 108 artifacts have been assigned digital identities. 96 smart interactive tourism stations have been installed at 13 heritage sites, attracting more than 223,500 check-in arrivals.

At the meeting, delegates focused on the need to preserve and promote heritage values in tandem with sustainable development. Regarding human resources, they stressed the importance of ensuring continuity and attracting more researchers, while calling for appropriate mechanisms and policies on income, benefits, and working conditions for officials, artisans, and artists.
In terms of resources, delegates called for greater mobilization of social resources and expert support, with a stronger focus on intangible heritage and landscapes, while also developing products and value chains that involve local communities. Regarding digital transformation, delegates proposed creating a ‘heritage map’, integrating digitization with data management to support research, education, and artistic creativity.
Delivering the concluding remarks, Mr. Vu Hong Huy highly appreciated Hue Monuments Conservation Center for its efforts over time. He highlighted a core principle: “Preservation is the prerequisite, heritage promotion is the means, and sustainable development is the result”. In his affirmation, all models of heritage utilization should balance the interests of the State, businesses, and local communities, while generating resources to be reinvested in heritage preservation.
Looking ahead, he called on the center to shift from ‘passive preservation’ toward ‘preservation for promotion’, while safeguarding heritage sites’ authenticity. According to him, Hue Monuments Conservation Center needs to step up digital transformation and use technologies such as 3D, 5D, virtual reality and AI to enhance heritage protection and bring culture closer to the public. He further called for greater emphasis on heritage research and education in schools, along with the development of in-depth media content to foster national pride.
The center should prioritize training and developing the next generation of personnel, while introducing flexible policies to attract and provide better support for experts and artisans. Furthermore, it should also step up coordination with the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee, Hue City Party Committee’s Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Committee, and press agencies to raise public awareness of Hue’s heritage values. The center was also urged to review its responsibilities comprehensively, proactively address challenges, and work toward making Hue a leading model for heritage preservation and promotion in the new era.
