| Hue City People’s Committee and UNDP in Vietnam signed a cooperation agreement for the coming period |
Hue City and UNDP are longstanding partners. Over the 2020 - 2025 period, the two sides carried out numerous programs on climate change adaptation, environmental protection, the circular economy, digital governance, unexploded ordnance remediation, and improving access to essential services.
The MoU for the next 5 years identifies 7 priorities, focusing on 3 pillars, including: inclusive, people-centered governance; digital transformation and innovation; and strengthening resilience to climate change, sustainable development, and human security.
Speaking at the working session, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Le Tri Thanh highly appreciated UNDP’s partnership, noting that Hue City is facing numerous development opportunities while also being increasingly affected by natural disasters and extreme weather, which impact people’s lives, investment, and heritage conservation.
Hue City hopes that UNDP will further elevate its cooperation, particularly in smart urban governance and climate-resilient city building.

In addition, Hue City wishes to strengthen cooperation on gender equality, improve livelihoods for women, support children in accessing better education and healthcare, and promote the green and circular economies in conjunction with environmental protection and ensuring people’s livelihoods.
Ms. Francesca Nardini, Deputy Resident Representative of UNDP in Vietnam, affirmed that UNDP considers Hue an important partner and is committed to continuing to accompany the city in pursuing rapid, inclusive, sustainable, and resilient development that puts people at the center.
Earlier, the Standing Committee of Hue City People’s Council also held a working session with the UNDP delegation to discuss areas of cooperation in the coming time.

At the working session, UNDP praised Vietnam’s progress in promoting women’s participation in elected bodies.
UNDP expressed its wish to coordinate with Hue City People’s Council in implementing activities to strengthen the leadership capacity of female delegates, focusing on presentation and discussion skills, voter engagement, citizen reception, and the exercise of oversight functions.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Tuan, Permanent Vice Chairman of Hue City People’s Council, affirmed that Hue has always paid attention to gender equality and promoting the role of women in State management and elected bodies. The City’s People’s Council agreed to study and implement specific areas of cooperation.
Thereby, the cooperation between Hue and UNDP is expected to further expand, from supporting urban development and climate change adaptation to improving governance quality, gender equality, and the capacity of elected bodies, contributing to the city’s goal of inclusive and sustainable development.
