| Workers are racing to complete the construction of Berth No.4 |
According to Mr. Tran Dinh Quoc, several key components of Chan May Port Berths No. 4 and 5 General Cargo and Container Terminal Project have made significant progress.
At Berth N0.4, construction of the temporary Geotube seawall, installation of prefabricated vertical drains, ground reclamation, and dredging of the berth basin have all been completed. All 500 foundation piles for the wharf have been driven. Meanwhile, all 1,077 precast concrete components have been manufactured, with 786 units installed, representing 73% of the total construction. Furthermore, construction of the wharf deck has reached 4,500 m2 out of 10,800 m2, reaching about 45% of the planned volume.
Production of the two multipurpose quay cranes has also been completed, while construction of the yard foundation and drainage system is progressing simultaneously. Under the project schedule, Berth 4 is expected to be completed and come into operation on September 10.
Also being developed by VSICO JSC, Berth No.5 has so far completed the installation of 6 test piles and the fabrication of 17 out of 374 precast girders, equivalent to 4.5% of the planned volume. However, large-scale construction has yet to commence due to unresolved site clearance issues involving an underground petroleum pipeline serving the Chan May Fuel Depot operated by PVOIL, as well as the navigation channel used by fishing vessels on the Lach Giang River.
VSICO JSC has called on the Management Board of the Economic and Industrial Zones and Hue City People’s Committee to step in and support the contractor in hastening the project’s implementation so that it can be completed and put into operation in October 2028.
