| Chairman Phan Thien Dinh discussing with Mr. Martin Kabaluapa Kapinga |
At the meeting, Mr. Martin Kabaluapa Kapinga expressed his sympathy for the difficulties that Hue City has recently faced due to prolonged flooding. He highly appreciated the city government’s timely disaster prevention, response, and recovery efforts, which he considered a clear demonstration of the locality’s sense of responsibility, proactive approach, and effective governance capacity in responding to climate change.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed future directions for cooperation, focusing on environmental protection, green urban development, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity conservation, contributing to building Hue into a green, sustainable, and livable city.
Chairman of Hue City People’s Committee Phan Thien Dinh congratulated WWF on the successful celebration of its 30th anniversary in Vietnam. He highly appreciated WWF’s practical support for Hue over the past years and affirmed that the city will continue to accompany and facilitate the effective implementation of cooperative programs in the coming period.
The Chairman expressed his hope that WWF in general, and WWF-Vietnam in particular, would continue to support Hue City in accessing international funding sources to enhance resilience to the impacts of climate change. He also called for assistance in conservation efforts, biodiversity enhancement, value chain development, and improving the livelihoods of communities dependent on forests, thereby, reducing pressure on natural resources, especially forests and wildlife.
At the same time, he called WWF for continuing their attention, partnership, and support for Hue City People’s Committee in environment protection, particularly in projects aimed at reducing solid and plastic waste; implementing the city’s waste segregation at source program, and managing plastic waste within the city by 2025, with a vision toward 2030, in line with the established roadmap, plans, and objectives.
