To promote cultural diplomacy and the image of Vietnam, the Vietnamese Embassy in Brunei collaborated with the International School Brunei (ISB) to organize a cultural exchange event introducing Vietnamese literary works and traditional hand embroidery art.
Speaking at the event, Vietnamese Ambassador to Brunei, Tran Anh Vu, expressed his wish that ISB students and international friends would come to love Vietnamese literature and study Vietnamese culture, as well as films successfully adapted from literary works.
The Embassy presented a number of Vietnamese literature and cultural research books to ISB’s library, including famous literary works translated into English such as “Diary of a Cricket” by author To Hoai, “I see yellow flowers in green grass”, and “Ticket to childhood” by author Nguyen Nhat Anh.
As part of the program, ISB’s lecturers and 30 students from grades 7-12 of various nationalities experienced traditional Vietnamese hand embroidery techniques, and decorated their works with unique H'Mong ethnic patterns under the guidance of Mrs. Le Thi Hong Ngoan - Spouse of the Ambassador, Mrs. Maisarah Nguyen - founder of the Rattan House handicraft enterprise, and Mrs. Pham Thu Phuong, a representative of the Vietnamese community in Brunei.
With the message of promoting traditional handicraft art linked to environmental protection, all materials used at the event were natural or recycled, including old newspapers, used plastic bottles, and dried plants, etc.
Mrs. Le Thi Hong Ngoan and the instructors stated that in the future, they would continue to explore natural materials in Brunei to combine them into Vietnamese handicraft products, as well as contribute to cultural exchange activities between Vietnam and Brunei.
ISB is a prestigious educational institution in Brunei with over 60 years of operation. The school currently has approximately 1,400 students and lecturers of various nationalities, with modern facilities and an international standard curriculum.
The leaders of ISB expressed their desire for more Vietnamese students to participate in the school's training programs in the coming time, and for more cooperation and exchange activities between ISB and Vietnamese educational institutions./.
