In the framework of the 31st World Travel Awards for Asia and Oceania in 2024, which took place on the night of September 3 in Manila, Philippines, the organizer announced prestigious awards.

Accordingly, at the national level, Vietnam tourism has continued to be honored as “Asia’s Leading Destination”, “Asia’s Leading Heritage Destination in 2024”, and “Asia’s Leading Natural Destination in 2024”. Notably, this is the sixth time in the past seven years that Vietnam has been recognized as “Asia’s Leading Destination” (in 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024).

This award is considered an affirmation of the position of national tourism as an attractive destination, “a highlight” in the tourism maps of Asia and the world. Especially, this year, Vietnam beat off many strong contenders such as China, India, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Sri Lanka to win the title.

At the local level, Hanoi Capital has continued to be honored in the category “Asia’s Leading City Destination” and “Asia’s Leading City Destination to take a short break”.

Ho Chi Minh City has been named as “Asia’s Leading Business Tourist Destination”, and “Asia’s Leading Festival & Event Destination”. For the second time, The Tourism Department of Ho Chi Minh City has been honored as Asia’s Leading City Tourist Board. The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism of Quang Nam province has won the award “Asia’s Leading Local Tourist Board” for the very first time.

The award “Asia’s Leading Cultural City Destination” has belonged to Hoi An Old Town for the fifth time in a row. While “the Green tourism gem” Moc Chau has continuously won the award “Asia’s Leading Regional Natural Destination” for the third time.

Ha Giang, the northernmost province of the country, made its debut in the category of “Asia’s Leading Regional Cultural Destination in 2024”. Meanwhile, Ha Nam has been on top of the category of “Asia’s Leading Emerging Tourist Destination”.

Furthermore, many famous Vietnamese brands in the fields of hotels, resorts, airlines, and travel agencies, etc., have also been honored at many categories of Asia’s leading awards in 2024.

Continuously being named at the award known as the “Oscar of Tourism Industry” demonstrates a strong appeal of Vietnam as a destination on the global tourism map. This is a golden opportunity and a huge drive for the tourism industry of Vietnam to continue promoting its outstanding values, spreading Vietnam’s image worldwide, attracting a great number of international tourists to experience and explore.

Vietnam’s oldest cadastral record preserved in Hue

Hue is a land that bears the imprint of the southward migration and territorial expansion undertaken more than 700 years ago by the people of ancient Thuan Hoa. Very few documents reveal the timing of these migration waves or the organization and formation of Vietnamese villages in the region. Yet during fieldwork, I gained access to several ancient Han-Nom documents recording the migration, land reclamation, and establishment of villages and communes. Most notably is a cadastral record dating to the 9th year of the Dai Hoa reign (1451) under King Le Nhan Tong, compiled exactly 575 years ago.
