The seminar is within the framework of the project on "Developing smart and sustainable tourism in the Mekong region" funded by the Mekong – South Korea Cooperation Fund (MKCF), which is implemented in five cities whose heritages recognized by the UNESCO in the Mekong River countries, including Ayutthaya (Thailand), Siem Reap (Cambodia), Luang Prabang (Laos), Hue (Vietnam), and Bagan (Myanmar).

The seminar was attended by a number of international experts from the Mekong Institute and more than 50 enterprises operating in the fields of tourism services, travel, destinations, gift products, and souvenirs in the province.

Speaking at the seminar, the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Thanh Binh said that, at present, Thua Thien Hue Province is promoting the development of tourism into a spearhead economic sector, creating a driving force to promote the development of other sectors. Hue focuses on developing tourism in the direction of professionalism, smart and sustainability; improving quality and competitiveness; developing the potentials and advantages in terms of conservation and promotion of cultural heritage values, natural landscapes, as well as sea and lagoon to develop sustainable, smart and innovative tourism, etc., in particular, taking advantage of technologies to develop tourism associated with digital transformation and smart tourism development.

“The seminar contributes to providing and sharing information and experiences of stakeholders in the tourism sector on the opportunities and practices of sustainable and smart tourism linkages; introducing and promoting the potentials, strengths, and the attractiveness of Hue Ancient Capital’s tourism products to organizations and partners in the region. This is the basis for the tourism sector to develop further in the coming time,” said Mr. Nguyen Thanh Binh.

The seminar has also contributed to improving the knowledge and understanding of the stakeholders in the tourism sector in Thua Thien Hue Province about the opportunities and practices on linking activities and products to develop tourism in a sustainable and smart manner; thereby, improving the quality of hotel services, destinations, and shopping activities, etc., as well as tourism competitiveness via smart technologies in the countries in the Mekong sub-region including Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam.

This is also an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation and linkage between South Korea and the countries in the Mekong sub-region via twinning activities between historical and cultural cities.
