On a summer day at the end of July 2025, a modest living room in an apartment in a building in Vy Da Ward was filled with laughter and chatter from a group of visitors. That very room is also where Distinguished Artisan Nguyen Dang Hoang - known by the stage name “Hoang Dieu” (Hoang Kite), has, for many years, both crafted his famous kites and welcomed visitors eager to visit, learn, and experience kite-making.

A kite originating from Hue, which has been preserved for nearly 60 years in a museum in the United States, was discovered by a Vietnamese restoration expert. Through numerous accompanying documents, together with a passion for cultural roots, that expert “told the story” about how the kite was ordered in Hue Ancient Capital, then taken all the way to the U.S., and became an artistic artifact, etc…. It was truly fascinating.

Not only well known in the “kite map” as a kite maker whose giant kites have flown in many parts of the world, Nguyen Dang Hoang is also considered a unique kite flier as he has made countless original kites, creating his own brand name “Hoang’s Kite.” Among them, his dragon kite, a symbol of power,_ made with Hoang’s skillful hands then hovered in the sky at shows and international festivals made many people admire.

These are colorful kites of domestic and international kite clubs participating in Hue International Kite Festival 2023 for the first time.

For the first time at the kite festival within the framework of Hue Festival, the typical and traditional kites of Southeast Asian countries will converge and accompany in the sky of the Ancient Capital.

On the morning of May 29, Hue Festival Center said that within the framework of the Summer Festival of Hue Festival 2023, the International Kite Festival 2023 would take place from June 3 - 9, with the participation of many Southeast Asian countries.
