Hue is undergoing a powerful transformation as it has become a centrally governed city, not only leveraging its natural advantages and distinctive cultural heritage but also proactively seeking new growth drivers. The development of a green logistics center and the establishment of a Free Trade Zone (FTZ) are viewed as strategic breakthroughs for the Ancient Capital.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment has just announced the 2024 environmental protection rankings (covering 63 provinces and centrally governed cities before administrative mergers) based on the PEPI Index. Thua Thien Hue Province, now Hue City, has risen to claim first place on the rankings.

Just one year after becoming the country’s sixth centrally governed municipality, Hue City has begun a new and more dynamic development journey. The Cultural Heritage Law No. 45/2025/QH15, passed by the 15th National Assembly on November 23, 2024, at its 8th session, will officially take effect on July 1, 2025. For Hue, a centrally-governed municipality and Vietnam's first heritage and cultural city, the (amended) Cultural Heritage Law plays a crucial role in improving the effectiveness of managing, protecting, and promoting cultural heritage.

After 37 years of waiting, the Miss Vietnam beauty pageant is finally being held for the first time in Hue Imperial Citadel under the unique contexts, as Hue has just officially become a centrally governed municipality, and the city is hosting the National Tourism Year and Hue Festival 2025.

The generation of national literary writers born in the Year of the Snake in Hue left a notable mark with many respected authors. 2025 marks the first year of implementing the National Assembly’s Resolution No. 175 on establishing Hue as a centrally-governed municipality, along with the National Assembly Standing Committee’s Resolution No. 1314 on restructuring district- and commune-level administrative units in the newly established Hue City.

The year 2024 marks a series of significant milestones in the Ancient Capital. Besides the historic event of becoming a centrally-governed city, Hue is also a destination for major investors with groundbreaking and finalized mega-projects, contributing to elevating the status of the sixth centrally-governed city in the country.

2024 is a significant year in the process of developing Thua Thien Hue into a centrally-governed municipality according to Resolution 54-NQ/TW of the Politburo. Therefore, Hue City is focusing its resources and directing the implementation of key development projects to expand urban space, aiming to create connectivity between the city's North and South districts.
