The tribute ceremony at these historic memorial sites in Quang Tri Province carries profound political, social, and humanitarian significance. It reflects the Vietnamese tradition of ‘remembering those who came before us’ while helping to educate younger generations about patriotism, inspire national pride, and strengthen the sense of responsibility among Party members, public officials, and people from all walks of life in the cause of building and safeguarding the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.
Also featured in the Current Affairs section is the announcement that, beginning with the 2026 - 2027 academic year, students throughout Hue City will receive textbooks free of charge through a borrow-and-return system operated by school libraries. This people-centered policy is expected to ease the financial burden on tens of thousands of families at the start of each school year while expanding equal access to education, particularly for students in disadvantaged areas.

On page 6, the highlight is the ‘Filial Piety Is Not Determined by the Form of Burial’ commentary, published following Hue City People's Council's recent approval of a policy to cover 100% of cremation costs through 2030. The policy has attracted widespread public attention, particularly regarding local funeral customs, beliefs, and cultural traditions.
Speaking with Hue Today, Most Venerable Thich Hue Phuoc, Standing Vice Chairman of the Executive Board of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha of Hue City and a member of the Hue City People's Council, said that what truly matters is not whether a person is buried or cremated, but rather filial devotion, remembrance of the deceased, and the performance of good deeds dedicated to their memory.
This issue of Hue Today also features a range of other important stories, including Hue City Party Committee's Standing Committee's decision to discipline Mr. Luu Duc Hoan; the collection, digitization, and handover of information relating to martyrs' remains in Huong Tra; a 90-day campaign to standardize healthcare data and accelerate digital transformation; and the 2026 - 2031 Congress of Hue City Red Cross Society.
