Vovinam Tournament kicks off at the 10th City Sports Games

HNN.VN - On the morning of December 20 - 21, the Vovinam Tournament under the 10th Hue City Sports Games in 2025 - 2026 officially kicked off at the City Youth Activities Center. It is the eighth sport featured at this year’s Games, following traditional boat racing, karate, taekwondo, shuttlecock kicking, volleyball, badminton, and table tennis.

The tournament attracted over 100 male and female athletes from 13 wards, communes, and units, including Hue University, the City Police, and the localities of Phu Xuan, Thuan Hoa, Vy Da, Thuy Xuan, Thanh Thuy, Huong Tra, Phong Phu, Phong Quang, Huong An, Phu Bai, and Long Quang.

Vovinam - or Viet Vo Dao, is a traditional Vietnamese martial art that embodies the nation’s cultural identity, reflecting the martial spirit, indomitable will, patriotism, and aspiration for advancement of the Vietnamese people.

Including Vovinam in the City Sports Games competition program not only promotes physical fitness movement but also plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, while fostering moral education, character development, and healthy lifestyles among the younger generation.

“Vovinam has early been identified as a key and strong discipline of the city’s sports sector. The sport is currently receiving focused investment and development to select outstanding athletes for upcoming national sporting events, the National Phu Dong Games, as well as regional and international tournaments,” said Mr. Tran Thanh Tuan, Director of the City Sports Center.

The tournament will end on December 21.
