| For the first time, Thai Hoa Palace - a heritage structure within the UNESCO-recognized complex - will receive “Green Building” certification |
This is an important milestone, highlighting Hue’s pioneering role in integrating green heritage models with eco-friendly transportation. With its strategy to become Vietnam’s first “bicycle city,” Hue is paving a new path toward sustainable tourism development that not only preserves cultural heritage but also promotes environmental protection.
At the event, the Vietnam Green Building Council will award the LOTUS Green Building certification to Thai Hoa Palace - marking the first time a UNESCO World Heritage-listed structure in Vietnam receives such recognition. This award not only reflects environmental standards but also honors Hue’s long-standing commitment to sustainable heritage conservation through its restoration efforts.

On this occasion, VGBC will also certify and honor GCOO as a LOTUS Green Service Provider - a pioneering unit in offering sustainable transportation services for tourism. GCOO, a brand under South Korea’s Gbike Group, has introduced electric vehicles as a new, eco-friendly means for touring Hue’s heritage sites. As part of the event, GCOO will donate 20 next-generation electric bicycles to Hue Monuments Conservation Center. These bikes will be integrated into a newly developed tourism route within the Imperial Citadel.
In addition to the certification ceremonies, a public awareness cycling activity will take place, featuring over 100 participants including leaders, entrepreneurs, educators, pupils, and students. Riding GCOO electric bicycles along Hue’s main streets, the participants aim to spread the message: “Sustainability from the roots - Reviving heritage, shaping a green future.”
To support long-term green transportation, GCOO will roll out 13 electric bike stations in key areas of Hue in the initial phase, beginning operation on April 20th, 2025. A total of 140 electric bikes will be deployed at locations such as Tu Do Stadium, Hue City People's Committee, Ho Chi Minh Museum, and Kim Long Park... Upon successful inspection, the system will be expanded further to serve both residents and tourists.
With such thoughtful and interconnected initiatives, Hue is steadily realizing its vision of becoming a smart, green, and sustainable heritage city in the near future.
