This sacred tradition honors the “silent teachers”, who have dedicated their remains to sow the seeds of knowledge and life for the future.
The year 2026 also marks the first time students from the Department of Medical Engineering officially participated in the Macchabée Festival, contributing to expanding the participants, and further spreading the spirit of gratitude and humanitarian values. This year’s festival featured 40 tribute projects, double the number from the previous year, along with various decorations prepared by students over three consecutive weeks.
Additionally, 22,000 paper cranes of gratitude were folded and displayed throughout the campus, blending with the glow of lantern lights, creating a solemn and contemplative space. These efforts not only reflect an expansion in scale of the festival, but also serve as a vivid testament to enduring gratitude and continued legacy of the tradition of Macchabée - where today’s generation bows in respect to the “silent teachers”, who laid the foundation for medicine and medical ethics. Their quiet sacrifice is incredibly noble, as they offer their own bodies to help future generations of doctors study and research, contributing to advancing medicine, ultimately serving the community.
