Brief Announcement of the Outcomes of the Party’s 14th National Congress

HNN.VN - On the morning of January 28th, the Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization convened the January 2026 Central Reporters’ Conference to provide a brief announcement of the outcomes of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam.

The conference was held live at the Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization and connected online to venues nationwide. The conference at the central venue was chaired by Mr. Pham Tat Thang, member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Head of the Central Commission for Information, Education and Mass Mobilization.

Attending the conference at the venue of Hue City Party Committee were Party Central Committee members: Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung, Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee, and Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee and Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee. Also in attendance were Mr. Pham Duc Tien, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Chi Tai, Deputy Secretary of the Hue City Party Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the city; members of the Standing Committee of the Hue City Party Committee; City Party Committee members; City-level reporters; as well as leaders of relevant departments, agencies, and units.

With the motto “Solidarity – Democracy – Discipline – Breakthrough – Development,” the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam was held from January 19th to 23rd, 2026, in Hanoi Capital, with the participation of 1,586 delegates representing more than 5.6 million Party members nationwide.

After five days of serious, responsible, and scientific work, fully promoting collective wisdom and the spirit of democracy and renewal, the 14th National Congress concluded with great success. It was a Congress embodying the will for strategic autonomy, self-reliance, and resilience, the aspiration for strong national advancement, and firm confidence in the path chosen by the Party, President Ho Chi Minh, and the People.

At the Congress, the 13th Party Central Committee presented important documents, including the Political Report; the Report summarizing 40 years of reform under socialist orientation; the Report reviewing 15 years of implementation of the Party Charter; and the Report reviewing the leadership and direction of the 13th Central Committee. General Secretary To Lam presented the comprehensive report on the Congress documents. With a high sense of responsibility, delegates carefully studied the documents and engaged in lively discussions, contributing 815 opinions at group meetings and plenary sessions.

The Congress conducted elections in strict accordance with regulations, electing 180 official members and 20 alternate members to the 14th Party Central Committee. At its first plenary session, the 14th Party Central Committee elected a 19 Politburo members; and Comrade To Lam was elected General Secretary of the 14th Party Central Committee.

The Congress adopted strategic decisions aimed at successfully realizing the country’s two centenary goals. The overarching objective is to maintain peace and stability; achieve rapid and sustainable development; comprehensively improve the people’s living standards; and strive to become a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income country by 2045. During the 2026-2030 period, the country aims to achieve an average annual GDP growth rate of 10% or higher, with GDP per capita reaching approximately USD 8,500.

The Congress emphasized three strategic breakthroughs: improving institutions and enhancing the effectiveness of implementation; developing high-quality human resources in association with science, technology, and innovation; and building a synchronized and modern infrastructure system. It reaffirmed the guiding principle that “the people are the foundation,” placing the people at the center, as the subject and driving force of development, while underscoring the responsibility for action and overcoming the tendency to emphasize rhetoric over results.

At the conference, leaders of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also provided additional information on the topic “Overview of the Global Situation and the Party’s and State’s External Relations and Diplomacy in 2025; Forecast of the World Situation and Directions and Tasks for External Relations and Diplomacy in 2026.”
