As part of the project “Research and performance of Trinh Cong Son’s music”, the podcast series “Trinh Cong Son of mine & ours” introduces a new approach to the musical legacy, culture, and philosophy of the Hue-origin musician. Using oral history, each podcast episode will feature a conversation with a guest, who has been associated with the late musician Trinh Cong Son or his music.
Some of the expected guests include the family and friends of the late musician, such as poet Nguyen Duy, professor Tuong Lai, Trung Hai, a teacher, and the painter Le Thiet Cuong, etc. They are all intellectuals, artists, and art practitioners with deep knowledge of culture, history, and society in various fields, guiding listeners to new horizons in Trinh Cong Son's life and legacy, including poetry and painting…
In each episode, lasting over 60 minutes, the production team also explores and introduces some of Trinh Cong Son's lesser-known songs. All the song performances are given by students from the Music Club of Fulbright University Vietnam.
The first podcast episode titled “Our home lies small” released on April 1 on Spotify and YouTube, revolves around childhood memories that Mrs. Trinh Vinh Trinh, the youngest sister, still cherishes about her eldest brother.
The podcast uncovers fascinating stories, such as Trinh Cong Son's attempts at creating first melodies on his sickbed with a guitar his mother gifted him, his first song titled “Suong dem” (“Night Mist”), his days accompanying his mother to the pagoda for chanting, and the profound influence of Buddhist philosophy that permeated his lifestyle as well as his art.
