On the late afternoon of February 28th, the “Afternoon in My Homeland” art show, organized by the family of Trinh Cong Son on the occasion of his birthday anniversary (February 28th, 1939 - February 28th, 2026), drew thousands of devoted admirers of Trinh’s music.

Among the attendees were Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the Hue City People’s Committee, along with representatives of departments, agencies and local authorities.

“Afternoon in My Homeland” conveyed a heartfelt message from the organizers to the audience about the return and about Trinh Cong Son’s enduring love for Hue. That sense of return is embodied in the space of Trinh, where his statue faces the Huong River, and where a stone slab engraved with the famous song “Noi vong tay lon” stands.

The program featured familiar melodies by Trinh Cong Son such as “Quynh huong”, “Hue - Sai Gon - Ha Noi,” “Mua hong”, “Ca dao me”, “Chieu tren que huong toi”, “Ngau nhien”, among others. Through the distinctive styles of singers Duc Tuan, Cam Van, Tan Son, Quang Thanh, Ha Le and Quynh Pham, the audience was led through a wide range of emotions. Before the nearly 90-minute show concluded, all the artists and fans joined together in a vibrant yet deeply moving chorus of “Noi vong tay lon”.

Earlier that morning, Trinh Cong Son’s family had also organized a seminar about his life and legacy, with the participation of scholars, researchers and friends.

At the seminar, writer and translator Buu Y, Prof. Dr. Thai Kim Lan and others shared stories and memories about Trinh Cong Son’s everyday life, his songwriting career, and his philosophical outlook during his lifetime.
