Hue Nam Temple Festival and Van Cu noodle-making craft are recognized as cultural heritage

HNN.VN - On December 11, representatives of the provincial Department of Culture and Sports informed that the Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism announced the decision to include the Hue Nam Temple Festival (Huong Tho Commune, Hue City) and Van Cu noodle-making craft (Huong Toan Commune, Huong Tra Town) in the list of National Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Hue Nam Temple Festival, which is the so-called Hon Chen Temple Festival taking place from the beginning of the annual March and July of the lunar calenda, is considered a traditional activity with spiritual cultural elements, combining with imperial rituals and folk beliefs of a part of Hue locals in particular and that of the country in general. Hue Nam Temple Festival was upgraded to a national festival, and up to now, it has attracted a great number of tourists, especially those from Central Vietnam.

Most of the main rituals in the framework of the festival are held at the Temple on Mount Ngoc Tran by the Perfume River, where Thien Y A Na Mother Goddness is worshipped. There are also rituals such as fish release and lantern floating, and the performance of the traditional Hue “chau van” tunes, etc. These activities attract hundreds of boats heading upstream along the Perfume River, bringing large numbers of visitors from various provinces across the country to the festival.

Meanwhile, the Van Cu noodle-making craft is a famous traditional profession known far and wide for its ivory-white noodles and distinctive fragrance. This craft has been around for over 400 years. Today, this craft village attracts more than 100 households involving in noodle production to supply to markets, restaurants, and eateries... As a result, it has provided a stable source of income for the local people.

Previously, in August, 2024, the Minister of the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism decided to officially recognize the “Knowledge of Sewing and Wearing the Ao dai of Hue people” as a national intangible cultural heritage.
