Culture and sports are the soul of development

HNN.VN - Culture and sports not only shape the identity, but also serve as the soul of development. The responsibility of officials working in the cultural and sports sector is not only to preserve what exists, but also to innovate and spread those values.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, and Chairman of Hue City People's Committee, emphasized the above at the conference to deploy tasks for 2026 of Hue City Department of Culture and Sports on the morning of January 13.

Focusing on building a scientific dossier for Hue-Singing to submit to UNESCO

At the conference, the culture and sports sector reviewed the achievements of 2025. Key highlights included advisory work, as well as the formulation and refinement of institutional frameworks within the fields of culture and sports.

In the context of implementing the policy to rearrange administrative units and operating a two-tier local government system, the Department proactively reviewed, adjusted, and promptly implemented legal documents and related professional guidelines, ensuring that State management in the fields of culture and sports remained smooth and effective.

Many traditional festivals, craft villages, and forms of folk art continue to be maintained and promoted. The Department is actively building a dossier for Hue-Singing (Ca Hue) to submit to the UNESCO to be considered for inclusion in the list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, further affirming the global status and value of Hue's heritage.

2025 featured many festivals and events that created highlights for Hue

In the field of sports, the city hosted numerous national tournaments, attracting nearly 3,000 athletes and coaches from provinces and cities across the country. To date, athletes participating in regional, national, and international sports tournaments have won 735 medals of various types, including 69 international medals.

Mr. Phan Thanh Hai, Director of Hue City Department of Culture and Sports, stated that based on the achievements of 2025, the city's culture and sports sector has set key goals for 2026.

Transforming heritage values into economic drivers

Regarding 2026, Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan noted that this is a year of particularly significant importance with many major political events. For culture to truly be the spiritual foundation and the driving force for the development of a heritage urban area, the sector needs to focus on key tasks.

Regarding the development of cultural industry, this must be seen as a strategic direction to transform heritage values into economic drivers. The city will continue to enhance the effectiveness of Hue Festival - the Four Season Festival, while researching and investing in the development of real-life art shows, community creative spaces, and cultural models combined with modern tourism and commerce.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Toan also requested the promotion of the strengths of intellectuals, artists, athletes, coaches, and officials working in culture and sports. The goal is to build a workforce that is compassionate, visionary, and talented, as well as creative and dedicated to the common cause. The city will always accompany, facilitate, and encourage young talents and individuals to maximize their capabilities.

Tet & the concept of time

Since the primordial dawn of history, primitive humans were already conscious of time. They observed the rotation of the universe and carved markings on cave walls to record the passage of day and night. From natural phenomena, weather patterns, and cosmic cycles, humans created calendars to serve daily life and agricultural production.

Hue’s yellow apricot blossom… snubbed by the emperor

Ask the people of Hue what flower they love most, and most will likely answer: the apricot blossom. To put it more formally, “hoang mai” - yellow apricot, without a doubt. Don’t believe it? Come to Hue and see for yourself! There’s a whole movement called “Yellow apricot blossom in front of the entrance”; a completed research project on “Conservation and development of Hue’s yellow apricot variety (Hue’s Hoang mai)”; a scientific conference on developing Hue’s Hoang mai into a key local product, aimed at successfully realizing the project to build Thua Thien Hue province (now Hue City) into Vietnam’s yellow apricot homeland. My friend, journalist Minh Tu, even published a book called “In front of the house stands a yellow apricot tree”, which sold out instantly, was reprinted, and translated into foreign languages to great acclaim.
