| The Kim Long Ward Women's Union provided bicycles to disadvantaged students |
Hoang Nhat Long Vu, a student in Huong An Ward, shared: “Receiving the bicycle right before the new school year made me very happy. The bike helps me get to school faster and more safely”.
For Long Vu, the bicycle was a special gift as he prepared for the new school year. His family still faces many hardships, so the costs of his education have always been a burden. The care and support from the Women’s Union and generous donors are not just material value, but also help him feel the community’s sense of sharing and companionship.
A bicycle may be a simple thing for many students, but for those facing hardship, it is a means to make the road to school easier. From that small gift, students gain more motivation to study and greater confidence in the path ahead.
This year, the Dan Dien Commune Women’s Union presented 90 scholarships, with total funding of VND 110 million, to disadvantaged students. Among the recipients, Dieu Thi Yen Nhi, from Quang Hoa hamlet and a 10th grader at Nguyen Chi Thanh High School, received a scholarship worth VND 3.2 million.
“That amount is really significant for me and my family. It will give me extra money to buy school supplies and books,” said Yen Nhi.
The scholarship arrived at just the right time, giving Yen Nhi more resources to prepare for the new school year. But beyond its monetary value, it also encourages her to keep striving in her studies, overcome her circumstances, and pursue her dreams.
The Dan Dien Commune Women’s Union is currently sponsoring 36 orphaned or disadvantaged children in the area, providing them with monthly support. The Union actively reaches out to and mobilizes organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to provide gifts, books, school supplies, bicycles, and so on, giving these children better chances to attend school.
On the day of the new school-year opening ceremony, the Union staff also personally escorted the sponsored orphans to school. These simple acts, filled with care, help the children feel that they always have someone walking alongside them in these early stages of life.
“Depending on each case, the Union mobilizes support for practical needs such as books, school supplies, bicycles, or gift packs. The goal is to help ease these children’s hardships, let them focus on their studies with peace of mind, and ensure that no one has to give up school because of family circumstances,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Bich Ngoc, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Dan Dien Commune.
Hue City Women’s Union and its various levels consistently pay special attention to children from vulnerable families. In many localities, children of single mothers have received scholarships and study-support packages right before the start of the new school year.
As for Ms. Duong Thi Thu Thuy, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Hue City, for vulnerable families, timely support not only helps resolve immediate difficulties but also creates further opportunities for mothers to stabilize their lives and better care for their children. Bicycles, scholarships, backpacks, and computers given to students - every activity shares the same goal: ensuring that no child is left behind because of hardship.
Under the motto ‘Sharing Love - Support to School’, chapters of the City Women’s Union continue to build connections, mobilize resources, and stand alongside disadvantaged children and students.
