Hue's wrestling team made a remarkable breakthrough despite facing significant squad disadvantages

Beginning on May 2, Hue City's wrestling team fielded more than 20 athletes competing in  freestyle category (both men and women), aiming to secure 2 - 3 gold medals.

After a week of competition, thanks to outstanding performances, the team won 7 gold medals, 7 silver medals, and 16 bronze medals. The 7 gold medals were claimed by My Hanh (62kg), My Linh (53kg), My Trang (57kg), Ngoc Trinh (72kg), Minh Y (60kg), Viet Phu (55kg), and Ngoc Tram (43kg).

With these achievements, Hue’s wrestling team impressively surpassed 2 strong rivals - Bac Ninh (4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 4 bronze medals), and Thanh Hoa (3 gold medals, and 2 silver medals) - to claim the 1st place overall in women’s freestyle category and the 3rd place overall in men’s freestyle category, finishing behind the Military’s wrestling team (9 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals), and Hanoi’s wrestling team (4 gold medals, 5 silver medals, and 8 bronze medals).

The National Freestyle and Greco-Roman Wrestling Club Championship 2026 brought together nearly 350 male and female athletes from 18 provinces, cities, and sectors nationwide, including Thanh Hoa, Ninh Binh, the People’s Public Security, the Military, Phu Tho, Ho Chi Minh City - Zone 2, Quang Tri, Hai Phong, Hanoi, Ca Mau, Hung Yen, Lam Dong, Tay Ninh, Thai Nguyen (men), Thai Nguyen (women), Bac Ninh 1, Bac Ninh 2, Lao Cai, and Hue City. The athletes competed for 33 sets of medals, including 22 sets of medals in freestyle category, and 11 sets of medals in Greco-Roman category.
